Arconic uses NY MEP Partner CITEC to find Contract Mechanical Engineering

Success Story Powered by New York MEP Regional Center CITEC

Arconic provides aluminum sheet, plate and extrusions plus architectural products for transportation, industrial, packaging, and building & construction markets.  They employ 165 people at their Massena, NY facility where they produce cold-draw rod/bar, extruded forge stock, and extruded rod/bar.  As with many industries and organizations, Arconic faces workforce challenges in finding capable/qualified individuals at all levels of their manufacturing team.  They needed to grow their preventive maintenance, their break-fix team and shutdown planning in the extrusion area.  They hoped to bring on this talent with recent engineering turnover.

Arconic reached out to MEP National Network member and New York MEP North Country Regional Center, CITEC, to provide contract mechanical engineering support to their team to assist in maintenance roles.  They undertook a number of initiatives including equipment upgrades where reliability and sourcing were a challenge and installing spare parts due to shortages and age of the equipment.  CITEC in the lead project management role coordinated activities to remove old components and install and test the new equipment, then returning the plant to full operating capacity.  CITIC also facilitated development of new annual preventive maintenance guidelines and schedules that new team members can easily execute and monitor on day one.

We are so thankful to partner with CITEC and have Kate on site as an engineering resource.  Her knowledge of our Extrusions area and her detail and system-oriented approach has helped training of our employees and put processes in place that will weather employee turn-over in the future.

— Eowym Doud, Plant Manager
