Success Story Powered by New York MEP Regional Center MTRC

Northport, NY based Snake Trap LLC is a small manufacturer of sanitary covers or snap cases for toilet augers, or “snakes” as they are popularly called.  Their flagship product is a universal 6-foot auger cover.  The case prevents the auger’s drippings between uses from contaminating floors and surfaces where they are used.  This is especially useful to plumbers and sanitary staff in public facilities.  Their target markets include hospitals, schools, universities, plumbers and plumbing supply distributors.   Snake Trap’s primary owner, Rob Lauth, designed and invented the device.  While Rob had a vision for the product, he needed help bringing it across the finish line with 3D modeling and design.

Rob turned to MTRC, the New York Long Island Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) member and National MEP Network member.  Technicians worked with Rob in the rapid prototyping user facility to develop a functional prototype design.  Snake Trap was then able to leverage that design to print the prototype and work through 8 different revisions of the product.  The project also worked with Snake Trap to design several other products that are in their pipeline.  Their flagship product has been available at major stores such as Lowes and Home Depot.

Without the dedication from the MTRC staff, especially Jessica and Cynthia, we would not have a product. They saw us through our initial period where this was just a concept all the way through to having an existing physical product that is being sold through major channels. They have been an invaluable asset and going forward we look to lean on them heavily during our upcoming marketing outreach efforts.
